Ear Deformity Reconstruction

This is a procedure intended to make ears less prominent and/or to create the normal anatomic features of an ear when they are absent. It is appropriately performed in both children and adults.

Microtia reconstruction consists of typically 2-3 procedures in which a Med-pore® framework, covered by tissue flaps and skin grafts, is used to construct an external ear that looks relatively normal for the patient. These procedures may be combined with other procedures, performed at a later time and by a different surgeon (an otologist), to re-establish some hearing in the affected ear when anatomically and clinically appropriate.
