A study designed to examine the effect of parathyroidectomy on coronary artery disease and in particular coronary calcium score is ongoing at Emory. Earlier studies at Emory have established that patients with parathyroid disease have an increased risk of coronary artery disease and that parathyroidectomy provides a direct improvement in blood pressure.
