Overview
Co-directed by Dr. Daniel Miller and Dr. Seth Force, the Minimally Invasive Thoracic Surgery Center (MITSC) treats a variety of benign and malignant diseases of the lung, esophagus and mediastinum (structures of the central chest such as the trachea and thymus) with procedures that use small incisions aided by specialized cameras and surgical instruments. Procedures are performed at Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown.
Compared to open procedures, patient benefits of minimally invasive surgery include much smaller incisions, less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker overall recovery with return to normal activities. Whether or not minimally invasive surgery is a viable option is determined by the specifics of the particular case.

- Pleural biopsy
- Treatment of pleural effusions (Talc pleurodesis and PleuRx catheter)
