Amissions and Patient Experience
During the Admission Process
Prior to admission to the geriatric hospital, patients should prepare and pack all items listed on our preparing for your stay page. This includes medication information, proper forms of identification and verification and necessary apparel, all of which should be present upon patient arrival. Electric razors, shaving lotions and perfumes, sharp or dangerous objects, and credit cards/cash should be left at home.
During your Hospital Stay
After admission to the geriatric hospital, you will be seen by a nurse who will take vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, etc.) and ask medical history questions. Most senior patient rooms are semi-private, so you will more than likely share a room with another patient.
Our physician team sees our patients daily to determine what tests, procedures and/or medication adjustments can help to aid in treatment of your symptoms. With patient permission, our physicians will contact your family at least every other day. If your family would like to speak with your physicians more frequently, requests can be made with your nurse to arrange for more frequent communication.
Our geriatric care teams are comprised of your physicians and additional staff including nurses, geriatric rehabilitation therapists and social workers. Hospital nursing staff is responsible for the provision of your medications and will assist in your personal geriatric care. Rehabilitation specialists will work with you if your physician team has concerns about your mobility, and specifically, your ability to walk.
Visiting hours are set to allow patients to participate in activities in our units and for our geriatric care specialists to provide the best possible patient care.
Please keep in mind, Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital is a smoke-free facility. Cigarettes and lighters are not permitted in or around the facility and will be sent home or secured in a storage area. Patients may be provided with nicotine aids such as nicotine patches or gum and smoking cessation literature and assistance.
