Medical Acute Care
Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital has 15 medical acute care patient beds. Medical and neurology patients admitted to the medical acute care unit usually remain in the hospital for an average stay of five days or less. Common examples of conditions for which a patient may be admitted to a bed in the Geriatric Hospital’s medical acute care include pneumonia, dehydration, pain or weakness, deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary emboli.
Patients of the geriatric medical acute care unit are typically seniors who have been under the care or treatment of an Emory physician or geriatrician at Wesley Woods Geriatric Outpatient Clinic. Upon departure from the medical acute care unit, the patient usually returns to care at the outpatient clinic. Elderly patients being cared for at the Geriatric Outpatient Clinic are able to experience continuity in the delivery of care by transferring from outpatient to inpatient care within the same system with shared understanding and relationships between physicians.
