Teriyaki Beef

Grilling beef, chicken or fish fillets instead of frying helps cut down on fat and calories! With this particular recipe, be sure to select a low-sodium sauce and watch how much you add. Sodium is linked to heart-health challenges, such as high blood pressure. Therefore, it is important to keep the sauce amount to a minimum and rely on the beef, chicken or fish for flavor.

Yield: 4 servings

Mix first six ingredients thoroughly and place in a gallon freezer bag. Add desired meat into the bag. Marinate overnight in the refrigerator, making sure it is in a secure container to prevent contamination. Turn two to three times for even more absorption of flavors. Grill to desired doneness. You may also use the marinade with vegetables like broccoli, zucchini, eggplant, etc. Instead of marinating, mix just before grilling and baste with extra marinade.

  • ½ cup soy sauce (opt for low-sodium or light soy sauce for less sodium)
  • ¼ cup dry sherry
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. grated ginger
  • ¼ tsp. grated garlic
  • ½ tsp. sesame oil
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef, chicken or fish fillets (washed and towel dried)
