Risk Factors
An effective way to prevent heart attacks is to know the risk factors and treat these conditions/harmful habits that could provoke a heart attack. Some risk factors are genetic and uncontrollable such as family history, but there are others you can control such as:
• Smoking
• High blood pressure — over 90/120
• High blood cholesterol — over 200 mg/dl
• Overweight and obesity as well as significant weight loss
• An unhealthy diet (for example, a diet high in saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, and sodium)
• Lack of routine physical activity
• High blood sugar due to insulin resistance or diabetes
