Bryce Gartland, MD serves as the Medical Director of Care Coordination and the Director of Hospital Medicine for Emory University Hospital, a 587-bed tertiary referral, academic medical center and the centerpiece of Emory Healthcare.  Dr. Gartland serves as Director of Hospital Medicine at Emory University Hospital, a leading site for the Section of Hospital Medicine which is the largest academic hospital medicine program in the country. The Emory University Hospital site consists of more than 25 physicians managing over 4,500 patient discharges per year in addition to a dedicated consult service and preoperative clinic. Recent group accomplishments include launching a new satellite venture at Emory University Orthopedic & Spine Hospital as well as being selected to participate within Project BOOST through the Society of Hospital Medicine. In his role as Medical Director of Care Coordination, Dr. Gartland leads the development and direction of hospital-based initiatives to improve patient throughput and efficiency of healthcare delivery. Ongoing projects include analysis of avoidable delays with resultant systems engineering, management of physician outliers, concurrent documentation and overseeing coordination of care through improved partnerships between nursing, social services, utilization review, physician staff and hospital administration. He also functions as the physician advisor for managed care contracts and denials management.

Prior to joining Emory, Dr. Gartland ran a successful fee-for-service, non-participating private practice in Beverly Hills, CA. During his tenure in private practice, he managed the day-to-day business operations of a four physician boutique practice. He also served as a physician consultant for numerous television and entertainment productions including Extreme Makeover. Aside from direct patient care, Dr. Gartland has served as a physician consultant to Cedars-Sinai in the development and launch of a computerized physician order entry system. He also consulted for numerous physician-owned practices on the subject of development of their infrastructures such as billing procedures; staffing; accounting, phone and business results tracking systems; lab installation; and other business practices. Dr. Gartland has also produced health education material for use at Grady Hospital that was subsequently marketed and sold in the medical community through Bridging the Gap Publishers. Dr. Gartland received his B.A. in psychology with a concentration in neuroscience from Vanderbilt University.  He then obtained his M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at the prestigious Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
