Bruce Mitchell, MD

Bruce L. Mitchell, MD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine. He is from Savannah, Georgia and after serving in the US Navy (Hospital Corpsman) he completed his undergraduate degree in Biology at Morehouse College. He then completed his medical doctorate training at Morehouse School of Medicine and Internal Medicine Residency at Emory University and affiliated hospitals. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and has been a Hospitalist for 17 years.

Dr Mitchell returned to Emory University in 2010 after serving on the staff of Mayo Clinic for 14 years. He was a staff Hospitalist at Emory University Hospital for 2 years before asked to assume the role of Director of Hospital Medicine at Emory University Hospital Midtown. 

Dr Mitchell’s clinical interests are Diving Physiology, Perioperative Management, Glycemic Control and issues associated with the End of Life.  He sits on several Hospital Committees and is actively engaged in designing and enacting physician quality metrics and peer review as mandated by the Joint Commission. His hobbies are scuba diving, deep sea fishing and boating. He is married and has 5 children.
