New e-Bed patient flow system
EHC is a busy place. More than 45,000 inpatients visit our hospitals each year. As a premier health care provider, we are dedicated to providing an optimal experience for our patients - including getting them in and out of our hospitals in an organized, timely fashion.
With our high volumes and constant activity, finding available rooms - and getting vacated ones cleaned - can be a tall order. Locating an available room for new admits and transfers can involve many people and many phone calls. To streamline this process, EHC is launching e-Bed, a McKesson system that allows for smoother, more efficient patient flow and increased patient safety. The e-Bed system uses simple color coding to indicate which rooms are available, occupied or need to be cleaned. It also utilizes icons within each room to let us know if patients are off the units having procedures performed in other locations and when new clinical data pertinent to patient care are available.
We are launching e-Bed in a staged rollout throughout the system. The go-live dates are as follows:
- Emory University Hospital & Emory University Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital - Tuesday, January 26, 2010
- Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital and Center for Rehabilitation Medicine - Wednesday, February 3, 2010
- Emory University Hospital Midtown - Tuesday, February 23, 2010
Your role
While you will not need to learn how to navigate the e-Bed system, we do recommend you become familiar with how to read the e-Bed maps. Please visit the e-Bed Web site on the Clinical Resources page of the intranet for more information. There you will also find an icon card that will help you read the on-unit monitors that will be turned on after go-live. All nurses, unit clerks and nurse techs will receive training on the e-Bed system, so feel free to ask them for additional information. If you would like access to the system through the Virtual Desktop (VDT), please contact your system access coordinator.
