Robotic Kidney Cancer Treatment

The Emory Department of Urology is leading the way in the treatment of kidney cancers, treating the smallest to the most advanced tumors. Our physicians provide expertise in focally treating kidney tumors while sparing the healthy portion of the kidney. Avoiding the removal of the entire kidney lessens the chance of kidney failure and other complications after surgery. This treatment for kidney cancer, in which only the tumorous portion of the kidney is removed, is also known as a robotic partial nephrectomy.

Emory physicians are also equipped with the research and ability to treat the most advanced kidney cancer cases. Emory Urology is one of few centers successfully performing the inferior vena cava tumor thrombectomy. We have done pioneering work looking at the difference in the actual blood vessel formation of vena cava tubes. There is no other center in the world performing these cases on a regular basis with successful outcomes.

Patient Advantages

  • The Emory Department of Urology is affiliated with The Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, Georgia's only National Cancer Institute-Designated Cancer Center. There are only 65 cancer centers in the United States that have earned this coveted status.
  • From the less invasive treatment of smaller tumors to care for the most advanced tumors, our patients have access to a multidisciplinary team of physicians, offering access to partners from our medical and radiation oncology team..
  • Emory Urologists are involved in clinical research, pioneering future treatments of urologic conditions and cancers, whether benign or malignant.
