Upon graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine Magna Cum Laude in 1990, Dr. Cawley entered neurosurgical residency training at Emory University. He then completed fellowships in Cerebrovascular Surgery at the University of Florida and in Interventional Neuroradiology at Emory University, where he joined the faculty in 1998.

Dr. Cawley has been a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society since 1989, is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, and serves on the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He also maintains leadership and membership positions in several medical societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Diseases and the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology.

Dr. Cawley's clinical and research interests lie in the treatment of neurovascular disorders via both surgical and endovascular means. He is an active member of The Emory MBNA Stroke Center, which combines the expertise of cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, interventional neuroradiologists, stroke neurologists and Neurointensivists, and has developed one of the largest clinical experiences in the nation.
