Pancreas Conditions

Duodenal Tumors

The upper part of the small intestine is called the duodenum. Duodenal tumors that occur near where the bile and pancreatic ducts empty into the small intestine sometimes require surgical resection. If the tumor is resectable, sometimes it is also necessary to remove other organs and parts of organs that are near the tumor. In these cases, the Whipple procedure is often recommended. During the Whipple procedure, the common bile duct, the gall bladder, the duodenum and the head of the pancreas are all removed.
