This is a study to test a new drug to see if it can slow down or prevent kidney disease in type 2 diabetics.

Inclusion Criteria
Age: >18 years of age
Sex: Both
Ethnic Origin: All ethnic groups are eligible
Diagnosis required to participate: Type 2 Diabetes

Exclusion Criteria
- Type 1 diabetes
- Kidney disease from another cause
- severe liver disease
- Recent cancer
- Severe uncontrolled heart disease
