The Emory Proton Therapy Center integrates cutting-edge radiation treatment technology such as pencil-beam scanning into the vast range of cancer treatments and services available through Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. This puts the most advanced tools in the hands of our highly specialized and experienced clinical team for the best quality care possible of your patients.

The Emory Proton Therapy Center not only utilizes the most advanced radiation technologies and treatments but combines it with the expertise of renowned specialists at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. As the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the state of Georgia, Winship discovers, develops and delivers some of the world's most effective ways to prevent, detect, diagnose and treat each patient's unique cancer.

Individualized Treatment Plans for Proton Therapy Patients

The Emory Proton Therapy Center features the most advanced proton therapy technology available.  Each of the five treatment rooms features pencil-beam scanning, which delivers a narrow stream of protons that are magnetically steered to "paint" the radiation to the shape of the target.  Advanced imaging in the treatment room, including cone-beam CT scans, allows for precise patient alignment before treatment delivery.

The center provides the resources needed to design and deliver proton therapy for both adults and children, including CT and MRI for radiation planning, blood draws for labs, minor procedures such as fiducial marker placement, fluid resuscitation, and sedation and anesthesia services for children. Patients may be seen in consultation at the proton center or at other Winship locations to provide the most convenient scheduling and care coordination.

Clinical Trials

As a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, Winship provides improved access to clinical trials and resources available only at designated cancer centers.  Your patients will have access to hundreds of clinical trials conducted for nearly every type of cancer, providing access to treatment options that may not be available everywhere. Winship has the largest unit in Georgia for phase I clinical trials, which are important to introducing new therapies against cancer. We also serve patients through the Winship Cancer Network, a partnership with community hospitals, enhancing access to research and treatment.
