About Dr. Alemozaffar

Dr. Alemozaffar is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Alemozaffar received his undergraduate education from the University of California San Diego with a B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He attended medical school at the University of California Los Angeles as the Deans Scholar and earned his M.D. in 2007 along with election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor society. This was followed by five years of urology residency training at the Harvard Program in Urology in Boston, MA. He then completed his Urologic Oncology Fellowship, combined with a Masters degree in Biomedical and Clinical Investigation, at the University of Southern California in 2014.

Dr. Alemozaffar’s primary clinical interest is urologic oncology (cancers involving the bladder, kidney, adrenal gland, prostate, testes and penis). This includes both routine and complex malignancies referred to Emory for management by open, robotic, or focal therapy techniques with cutting edge technology. He offers advanced treatment options such as robotic cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion for bladder cancer, robotic prostatectomy with extended lymph node dissection for high-risk prostate cancer, minimal ischemia robotic partial nephrectomy for kidney cancer, and extraperitoneal approach to retroperitoneal lymph dissection for metastatic testis cancer.

In addition, Dr. Alemozaffar has a particular interest in science and research, and in the pursuit of new therapies to improve outcomes and positively impact the lives of patients suffering from cancer. His passion for research and discovery stemmed early while training through Howard Hughes Science Enrichment program leading to him spending one dedicated year at the National Institute of Health (NIH) as part of the Clinical Research Training Program. His research projects include improved diagnosis and prognostication of urologic tumors with molecular-based imaging and biopsies, understanding multifocality in prostate cancer and identification of the “index” lesion to treat with focal therapy, quality of life and outcomes following treatment for genitourinary malignancies, and clinical trials to evaluate new techniques and treatment options in urologic oncology. He has authored multiple scientific journal articles.

Dr. Alemozaffar is involved in teaching and mentoring medical students and urology residents. In 2008, he was recognized for his Teaching Excellence by Tufts University School of Medicine. He is the recipient of multiple research awards and honors such as Best Video Abstract from World Congress of Urology (2010) and Best of Posters from the American Urologic Association (2012).
