About Dr. Bell

Dr. Shelandra Bell is a board-certified primary care physician who joined Emory Healthcare in 2017. She provides general healthcare to children and adults in the Emory Clinic at Belmont, located in Smyrna. She enjoys getting to know her patients on a more personal level so she can understand their lifestyles and the factors that may impact their overall health.

Primary Care: The first step to whole body health and wellness

As a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO), Dr. Bell was trained to promote the body's natural tendency towards health and self-healing. She is able to prescribe medicine and perform surgery, but prefers to take a "whole body" approach with her patients. She focuses on preventative health by looking for and treating the root cause of a problem and not just the obvious symptoms.

Many of Dr. Bell's primary care patients complain of musculoskeletal pain such as headaches, backaches, sinus disorders or carpal tunnel. Her training in osteopathic manipulative therapy allows her to provide hands-on care, using stretching, gentle pressure and resistance to move the muscles and joints. By putting the body back into alignment, it is often times able to heal naturally.

Dr. Bell encourages all of her patients to be mindful of the signals the body gives and not to ignore them. A lot of health problems are connected to psychological issues, such as anxiety or depression, so she takes the time to explore each patient's mental, spiritual and physical well being. With a wide assortment of treatment options and a plethora of Emory Healthcare experts at her side, she is able to help patients find unique and effective ways to reduce the everyday stressors that take a physical toll.

The Art of Medicine

Dr. Bell is proud of the fact that she does not provide cookie cutter-type medicine. She does not believe every patient will benefit from the same treatments as each patient leads a unique lifestyle and has different triggers that affect his/her health. Therefore, Dr. Bell's favorite part of the job is talking with her patients. She wants to learn the underlying reasons why someone has stopped taking medicine, feels sluggish, or has chronic headaches. From there, the two can work together to create an individualized care plan that is highly likely to succeed.

More about Dr. Bell

Dr. Bell always knew she wanted to be a primary care physician. When she was a child, she would accompany her great-grandmother on trips to the doctor and was fascinated by what she saw. Little Dr. Bell wasn't afraid; she knew the doctors were able to help people feel better and she wanted to be a part of it.

Dr. Bell grew up and studied in Michigan so her Midwest values shine through from the moment you meet her. She is friendly, hard-working and used to a little bad weather (which makes Atlanta's moderate winters a nice change of pace)!   In her spare time, she loves to travel to warm sunny beaches in the Caribbean and binge-watch movies.
