About Dr. Mekaroonkamol

Dr. Parit Mekaroonkamol is a highly trained gastroenterologist who is originally from Thailand where he graduated from Chulalongkorn University, a top-ranked medical school in the country. He started his medical career as faculty there until he moved to the United States in 2010. He completed his Internal Medicine residency training at Albert Einstein Medical Center, and Gastroenterology fellowship as well as Advanced Endoscopy fellowship training at Emory University, where he also served as a chief fellow before joining the Advanced Endoscopy/Pancreatobiliary team at the Division of Digestive Diseases in the Department of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine.

Dr. Mekaroonkamol's passion lies in pancreatobiliary diseases and therapeutic endoscopy for motility disorders such as achalasia and gastroparesis. He is specialized in an array of interventional endoscopic procedures, such as ERCP, direct cholangioscopy, mechanical and electrohydraulic lithotripsy, diagnostic and therapeutic EUS with FNA, cystgastrostomy, fiducial marker placement, endoscopic mucosal resection, Barrett's ablation therapy including radiofrequency ablation and cryotherapy, enteric stent, obscure gastrointestinal bleeding, and deep device-assisted small bowel enteroscopy including both single and double balloon endoscopy.

Dr. Mekaroonkamol also performs additional advanced endoscopic procedures that are only available in a few centers in the United States, such as endoscopic submusocal dissection (ESD) for large polyp resection and earlier gastrointestinal cancers, per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) for achalasia treatment, and gastric per oral endoscopic pyloromyotomy (G-POEM) for gastroparesis treatment.

Dr. Mekaroonkamol has published multiple research projects on gastroparesis treatment, GPOEM, ERCP, and gastrointestinal bleeding, many of which were well-recognized in national and international platforms. He received a Chief Fellow award from the Division of Digestive Diseases, Emory University, in 2016 and received a Fellow-in-Training Award in Advanced Endoscopy from the American College of Gastroenterology in 2017.
