Face Lift
Emory physicians have developed a unique and highly successful approach to the face lift. Rather than the traditional nip and tuck, Emory plastic surgeons use a special technique to reposition the underlying tissues of the face and redrape the skin, providing a more natural look. Incisions are made behind the patient's hairline or ears to minimize scarring.
Eyelid Surgery
The goal of eyelid surgery is to restore a clean crease and smooth skin above the eye-shadow area of the upper lid or to remove puffiness or bags from around the lower-lid area. Emory physicians also strive to eliminate dark shadows and crow’s feet and create a smooth transition from the eyelid to the cheek.
Cheek Lift
The cheek lift is designed to lift the mid-section of the face (from lower lid to mid face), which often sags and folds due to aging. It can be performed on younger patients not requiring a full face lift or combined with a full face lift for more dramatic results.
Brow Lift
This procedure can give the face a more youthful appearance by lifting the eyebrows, which smoothes the forehead and reduces frown lines. Emory physicians use an endoscopic technique that involves only three small incisions behind the hairline to minimize evidence of surgery. A brow lift often is performed in conjunction with an upper-eyelid lift for longer-lasting results.
Rhinoplasty (nose)
The surgical reshaping of the nose is commonly performed to reduce the size, change the shape of the bridge, narrow the tip or adjust the size of the nostrils. In most cases, incisions are made inside the nose to hide evidence of scarring.
Otoplasty (ears)
The most common form of ear surgery repositions the ears closer to the head to reduce protrusion. The procedure can be performed safely and effectively on children as young as six, as well as adults. A small incision is made in back of the ear to expose the cartilage. The doctor then sculpts the cartilage and bends it back toward the head. In most cases, ear surgery leaves only a faint scar, which eventually fades, behind the ear.
Facial Implants
Implants are used to enhance facial contours and better balance the face. Emory physicians and their patients can select from several types of implants made from a variety of materials. Some are designed to strengthen the appearance of the jaw line, while others can bring the chin and cheekbones into balance. Implants are inserted after a small incision is made in the desired area, leaving a small scar that eventually fades.
Laser Surgery
Resurfacing the exterior layer of the facial skin with a laser is an advanced form of dermabrasion. While this procedure most commonly is used to minimize the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth, eyes, and forehead, it also is effective in treating sun damage, acne scars, and uneven pigmentation. Laser resurfacing can be done in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid surgery.
During the procedure, the laser safely removes damaged skin layer by layer. The laser penetrates to a precise, controlled depth, reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems. During the healing process, new cells form, producing a smoother, younger-looking skin surface.
