Under the leadership of Carolyn C. Meltzer, MD, FACR, chair, Department of Radiology, Emory Radiology is committed to providing patients and physicians with the highest quality care in a timely, cost-efficient manner. Our clinical division is backed by the research capabilities of Emory University, one of the fastest growing research institutions in the country. This research enriches our department’s practice of radiology by ensuring the latest techniques and technologies are available for our patients. Our Mission: Emory Radiology serves the community through advanced innovation, translational research and clinical application of imaging sciences. The Department is committed to excellence in scholarship and to the training of the next generation of radiologists, technologists and imaging scientists. The Department’s goal is to provide the highest-quality patient care with predictive, diagnostic and therapeutic imaging-based approaches.

Our Vision: Emory Radiology will be viewed by patients, trainees and scientists as a destination department for its internationally recognized leadership in imaging sciences and clinical applications.


Highlights of our services and procedures include:

  • Abdominal Imaging: Provides diagnostic imaging for gastrointestinal, genital and urinary tract diseases including CT (computed tomography), MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), ultrasound and fluoroscopy.
  • Breast Imaging: Provides mammography and screening techniques for the detection of tumors and lesions. Breast imaging has greatly enhanced the successful diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the earliest stages.
  • Cardiothoracic Imaging: Provides imaging involving the chest area including the lungs and heart, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems.
  • Community Radiology: Offers a complete array of diagnostic and interventional services and interpretation at Emory Johns Creek Hospital and other community-based facilities.
  • Interventional Neuroradiology: Provides a variety of non-operative, interventional procedures for the treatment of neurovascular diseases such as brain aneurysms.
  • Interventional Radiology & Image-Guided Medicine: Provides non-operative diagnosis and treatment of diseases using minimally invasive procedures with catheters and other small devices.
  • Musculoskeletal Imaging: Offers traditional diagnostic imaging, CT and MRI to evaluate the musculoskeletal system.
  • Neuroradiology: Provides and interprets images of the head and neck to assess the brain and spine for abnormalities.
  • Nuclear Medicine & Molecular Imaging: Provides and interprets procedures that scan organ functions with the use of radioactive compounds to evaluate abnormalities in all major organs, such as the heart and the endocrine system.
  • Pediatric Radiology: Offers a complete array of radiological services for children in partnership with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and the Emory Children’s Center.
