Vertebroplasty Example

 

  • Female patient with painful compression fracture involving the upper lumbar spine.
  • On physical exam the patient had pain to palpation over the fractured level.
  • Vertebroplasty was performed as an outpatient procedure.

Needle and Cement Injector

The left image shows the front view demonstrating placement of the needle through the left pedicle into the vertebral body. The image on the right demonstrates the appearance of the fractured vertebral body following careful injection of the cement and removal of the needle.

This patient ultimately proceeded to have other fractured levels treated.
