Volunteering at Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital
Volunteer opportunities are available in the Outpatient Clinic, Rehabilitation Unit, Psychiatry and Neuropsychiatry Units and Long Term Acute Care Hospital. Available opportunities and times are listed below.
Outpatient Clinic Host:
Visit with patients wiating for doctors appointments. Keep the flow going and assist at the registration desk.
Time: Mondays & Tuesdays; 9 A.M. - 4 P.M. or Firdays; 9 A.M. - 12 P.M.
Horticultural Therapy:
Assist with the hospital horticultural therapy program. Work in the green house, courtyards and assist the Horticultural Therapist on the units with the patients. Help them plant seeds and watch it grow from week to week. Gardening experience not necessary.
Time: Weekdays

Music Therapy:
Assist our music therapist by passing out instruments and encouraging patients to sing and play along. You don’t have to be a singer. Join in the fun.
Time: Weekdays
Falling Stars:
Project initiated to assist patients and/or residents from being at risk for falls. This may include retrieving the remote, placing house slippers near, opening blinds or other small assisting tasks
Time: Mondays - Sundays; 10 A.M. - 7 P. M.
Continuum of Care:
Assist staff with clerical duties to include answering phone and triaging calls. Volunteer must have basic computer skills.
Time: Fridays; 12 P.M. - 4 P. M.
Patient Transport:
Help transport patients to physical therapy, doctors’ appointments and special events. This is a great way to interact with the patients.
Time: Mondays - Wednesdays; 8 A.M. - 5 P.M.

Tank Handler:
Assist respiratory with transporting oxygen tanks from the loading dock to departments in need and returning empty tanks back to the loading dock. Other clerical duties and inventory/restocking may be required.
Time: Mondays - Fridays; 8 A.M. - 12 P.M.
Transitions:
Assist with patient blood pressures, document weight, and assist with meals and other general duties.
Time: Mondays or Wednesdays; 9:45 A.M. - 2:30 P.M.
Friendly Visitor:
Do you like to talk to people? Comfor them? Make them smile? Give a manicure (file and polish only); it's a great way to gest some "one on one" time. Don't forget the lotion hand rub. This is very popular and lots of fun. We have patients on the units who have few to no visitors. Make a friend and enrich their lives.
Time: Mondays - Fridays; 10 A.M. - 7 P.M.
Rehab Assistant:
Help physical therapists in the gym and with scheduling patients.
Time: Weekdays; 9 A.M. - 1 P.M.
Wound Clinic:
Assist staff at the front desk with filing, copying, faxing, and pulling charts. Prep, restock rooms, answer phones, and take messages or run errands to the pharmacy. Volunteer may assist with weighing patients and taking blood pressures.
Time: Mondays - Fridays; 8:30 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.
Unit Assistant:
Help on the Neuro unit working with the staff and patients. This will include spending time and visiting with patients, doing art, puzzles, reading to patients, manicures, stocking supply carts, assisting with surveys, passing liquides, etc.
Time: Mondays - Fridays; 10 A.M. - 3 P.M.
