Heather Schmidt, MED, ATC

Heather SchmidtHeather Schmidt Odell is a Certified Athletic Trainer. She works as a physician extender to support orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Mathew Pombo. She assists with clinical operations including patient evaluations, concussion evaluation as well as casting and bracing. She also assists in the operating room as a Certified Orthopaedic Technologist. Heather began working for Dr. Pombo upon completion of the Emory Athletic Training Residency Program in July 2009. Prior to the residency, Heather completed her Masters of Education at the University of Virginia where her research involved concussions and forces over the foot while running. Heather received her undergraduate degree from Penn State University, majoring in Kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training. During this time Heather also worked as a student athletic trainer for rugby, men’s basketball, baseball and State College High School. During the summer she provided sports medicine coverage for sports camps for the local high school and middle school athletes. After graduating from Penn State, Heather served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Virginia Military Institute, where she worked with football and men’s soccer. She was fortunate enough to travel with the soccer team for spring training in Barcelona, Spain and also spent time in France. Heather enjoys spending time with her husband, David, as well as reading, hiking and spending time with family and friends.
