Heart Transplant Program

The Southeast’s Leading Heart Transplant Program

Emory Healthcare is a pioneer in heart transplant surgery. Patients from all over the country come to Atlanta to receive care.

What is heart failure? Advanced heart failure happens when your heart can’t pump blood to your body. The heart will continue to grow weaker without medical help.

Our comprehensive program includes medical therapy, FDA-regulated drugs and devices, heart catheterization, heart surgery, Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) implants, and for some patients, heart transplant surgery.

Your Heart Care Journey

Every patient’s journey is different. The right care begins when you meet with our highly skilled and experienced team of specialists. Our cardiologists, heart surgeons, transplant coordinators, pharmacists, clinical nutritionists, and physical therapists work with you to provide a customized care plan.

You can trust your care at Emory Healthcare because we have proven experience, including:

  • Georgia’s 1st heart transplant
  • Over 1,000 heart transplants to date
  • A national leader in ventricular assist devices and biventricular pacemaker therapy
  • First in the nation to receive Patient-Centered Specialty Practice Level 3 Recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. This is the highest level of recognition for a specialty practice.

Emory researchers have made significant strides to improve outcomes in heart transplants. We continue to develop therapies that will help our patients today and in the future.

Support Before and After Surgery

Patient education and other resources are part of our care programs. For patients who travel to the region, we offer the Mason Guest House, a low-cost home away from home.
