Wesley Woods Inpatient Psychiatry Units

Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital has two secure medical psychiatric units. Both are dedicated specifically to provide care for seniors. It is important for you and your family to know what to expect when being admitted to one of the inpatient psychiatry units. The goal of hospitalization is to return you to your highest level of functioning.

The psychiatry unit is a 22-bed smoke free unit designed for seniors with general psychiatric issues. An interdisciplinary team of professionals assesses and intervenes on behalf of the patient to return him or her to their maximum level of functioning. Both the patient and family are considered important parts of the treatment team. Each patient will discuss with the nurse the activities scheduled each day. Patients and family will be asked to provide accurate information about current symptoms, and past medical history and medication regimens with the treatment team. A schedule of activities for patients on the unit is available, and patients are expected to participate in group activities unless they have a conflicting treatment or test.

The neuropsychiatry unit is a 22-bed unit designed to evaluate seniors who have memory and/or behavioral problems related to dementia or other cognitive impairments. Patients with acute changes in mental status or behavioral problems may be admitted to the inpatient unit, where they are assessed by an interdisciplinary team of professionals. A case manager will monitor the patient's progress and insure that the patient receives a customized plan of care. At discharge, the plan of care will follow the patient to one of the Wesley Woods outpatient clinics or to another discharge destination.
