Urgent Care Telehealth Patient FAQs

Patients can receive care in their own homes through virtual visits, offering an easy way to connect with a live Emory Clinic orthopaedic, sports medicine or spine provider by online video chat with your own mobile device or computer.

  • Webcam or mobile cell phone or laptop device with a camera
  • Wi-Fi internet connection
  • Private space in your home or office

Your provider’s team will share education and training on the technology you will be using during your visit. Your provider will join from a private space in their home or office.

Expect the same type of conversation with your physician over telehealth as you would in the office. Your provider will talk with you about your current health status and discuss your concerns and needs.

It is best to anticipate each virtual visit will last as long as a typical in-office appointment.

Patients, family members and external institutions are able to utilize the Image Share and Exchange program to share medical imaging studies (X-rays, CT Scans, MRIs, Ultrasounds, etc.) so our Emory care team can review for your telemedicine appointment.

For patients who need an x-ray for diagnostic testing to determine treatment will be provided with an x-ray order that can be taken to any local clinic that offers radiology services.

There are three different ways we can accept images from an external facility at Emory Healthcare.

Patients, providers, or family members that have x-ray images on a CD disc can upload images to Life Image. Institutions that utilize Life Image can share images with Emory Healthcare (including Kaiser). Institutions that utilize Nuance PowerShare can also electronically share images with Emory Healthcare.

  • Provider-to-Provider Urgent Care Live Consults

Emory Orthopaedics, Sports & Spine is now offering provider-to-provider live urgent telehealth consults. Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. To initiate a live consult call 404-778-7177.

    These telehealth visits will:

    • Assist primary care and urgent care providers with an urgent orthopedic consult while still with the patient
    • Provide direct access for patients who arrive at the emergency room (ER) and require acute orthopedic procedures, diagnostics and treatment to receive care.
    • Assist patients with urgent after-hours, non-life threatening injuries (sprains, potential fractures, etc.) to avoid having patients go to an urgent care or the ER, and arrange to be seen in person when needed by an appropriate provider that specializes in the particular problem.

You can trust our Emory experts to care for your orthopedic, sports and spine injuries and conditions. For a non-life threatening musculoskeletal condition or injury that requires medical attention right away, the Emory Orthopaedics & Spine Center is happy to initiate a virtual “curb-side consult” with primary care, urgent care and emergency department providers to give you support and your patients the immediate attention they need.
