Emory Healthcare is proud to announce the appointment of Carlos H. Timaran, MD, MSc, as co-director of the Emory Aortic Program. Dr. Timaran is a nationally and internationally renowned leader in vascular and endovascular surgery, recognized for his decades of clinical, academic and research excellence.

Pioneering aortic care and endovascular solutions

Carlos Timaran, MDDr. Timaran joins Emory from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he served as Professor of Surgery and Chief of Endovascular Surgery. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been at the forefront of developing and refining fenestrated and branched endovascular aortic repair (F/BEVAR) techniques, with a particular emphasis on complex thoracoabdominal and aortic arch aneurysms.

He has served as principal investigator for numerous national and international clinical trials and has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters.

A Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery and a member of the American Surgical Association, Dr. Timaran has played a pivotal role in advancing minimally invasive aortic therapies and improving outcomes for high-risk patients. His leadership in the U.S. Aortic Research Consortium, along with his dedication to innovation, education and collaboration, make him an outstanding addition to Emory’s multidisciplinary aortic program.

Shaping the future of complex aortic care 

In his new role, Dr. Timaran will partner with co-director Brad Leshnower, MD to further expand Emory’s capabilities in complex aortic care, drive translational research and help train the next generation of aortic specialists.
