Clinical Trials

A New Path Forward

Psychedelic-assisted therapy clinical trials

The Emory Healthcare Veterans Program is proud to lead the way in advancing and transforming mental health care by conducting research focused on innovative treatment options. There is growing evidence that psychedelic therapy is safe and effective for mental health conditions. We are now conducting clinical trials investigating psychedelic-assisted therapy as potential treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder and related symptoms. Treatment involves a one-time dose of MDMA or psilocybin in combination with therapy for PTSD.

These trials are open to individuals experiencing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder who are interested in participating in clinical research. Eligible participants include veterans, active-duty service members and civilians who meet eligibility requirements and can commit to the treatment schedule and follow-up requirements.

About the clinical trials

  • All interested individuals will be assessed for eligibility, including medical and psychiatric screening.

  • Studies involve a one-time medicine session that may involve MDMA, psilocybin or, in some studies, possibly a placebo (no active medicine) in combination with two weeks of gold standard PTSD therapy.

  • Participation includes psychiatric and medical screening, treatment sessions and follow-up assessments.

  • Treatment is in-person in Atlanta, Georgia.

  • Treatment is provided at no cost, compensation is included upon completion and travel and hotel stay may be able to be covered.

  • MDMA and psilocybin are not currently FDA-approved for general clinical use but can be legally administered as part of regulated research studies.
