About Dr. O'Keefe

Dr. James O'Keefe is board-‐certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He joined the Emory Division of General Medicine and began his practice within the Paul W. Seavey Comprehensive Internal Medicine Clinic in 2015. Since joining Emory, Dr. O'Keefe achieved patient satisfaction scores in the top 10% nationwide. He has also been recognized as a source for up-‐to-‐date medical knowledge as an invited speaker at the Highlights Session of the 2016 National Meeting of the American College of Physicians, the largest medical specialty organization in the United States.

Dr. O'Keefe graduated from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2010. He completed internship and residency in the combined Internal Medicine-‐Primary Care program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he later assumed the role of Chief Resident of the outpatient clinics and later as Assistant Medical Director for Medical Student Education for the Internal Medicine practice. In these roles, he was responsible for clinic-‐based education for over 100 physicians-‐in-‐training and was twice awarded the Outstanding Ambulatory Teaching Award from the Department of Medicine, the first faculty member ever to receive the award in their first year as educator.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Dr. O'Keefe earned his B.A. degree in Neuroscience, magna cum laude, from the Colorado College, also achieving language certification as a student of Spanish and Arabic. Prior to work as a physician, he participated in a variety of service internships including the U.S. Department of State in Abu Dhabi, research on infectious diseases in the U.S. Naval Research Unit in Egypt, and basic cancer research at the Dana-‐Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. His wife is a physician at the Emory Eye Center, and they were recruited jointly from Los Angeles to Emory in 2015, after their twins were born, to further their careers in academic medicine and live and work near family.
