Ganglion Cyst Removal

Ganglion cyst removal is an outpatient procedure used to remove a ganglion cyst. This is fluid-filled sac that forms on the hand or wrist. The orthopedic hand surgeon makes a small incision on the hand or wrist just above the location of the cyst. The surgeon then isolates the cyst from the surrounding tissues and cuts the ‘stalk’ of the cyst. The ganglion cyst is then removed.

At the end of the surgery, the incision is closed with sutures, bandaged and placed in a splint for protection as the hand heals.
