Support Groups

The widespread use of support groups has provided weight loss surgery patients with an excellent opportunity to discuss various personal and professional issues with weight loss management. Many learn, for example, that weight loss surgery will not immediately resolve existing emotional issues or heal the years of damage that morbid obesity might have inflicted on their emotional well-being. Our surgeons have weight loss management support groups in place at each of our weight loss centers to assist you with short- and long-term questions and needs, including the most effective exercise and diets after bariatric surgery. Most bariatric surgeons who frequently perform weight loss surgery will tell you that ongoing post-surgical bariatric weight loss management support helps produce the greatest level of success for patients in their lives after undergoing surgery.

Emory Midtown Hospital strongly encourages all bariatric surgery patients to attend monthly support group meetings (at least one of which should be before surgery). This monthly group is available for patients considering bariatric surgery and for those who have already had bariatric surgery at Emory or elsewhere. Led by dietitians, health-fitness specialists, and psychologists, group meetings are a place for patients to address surgery's impact on their lives, explore their changing motivators, while learning about ways of incorporating lifestyle changes for long term success. Lifetime membership in the support group is included in the program fee for Emory patients. Individuals who received bariatric surgery elsewhere will be charged a nominal fee.

Second Monday of each month from 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.
