Courtney Gleason, MD, Director of the Women’s Sports & Wellness Conference, discusses how the Emory's Female Athlete Program got started.

Meeting Your Athletic Needs

We've tailored our approach to meet female athletes' needs - from youth athletes, collegiate athletes, and recreational athletes in their 20s and beyond.
We guide our youth athletes in safe sports participation, including injury prevention and recovery. Throughout the year, we offer educational programming tailored to female adolescents, including proper nutrition, mental skills training, sports performance, menstrual health, and balancing school and sports demands.

As sports demands get more intense for collegiate athletes, we're here to help women take their game to the next level. Programs for collegiate female athletes include nutrition and proper fueling, energy balance, preventing and recovering from injuries, sports psychology, and much more.

Women committed to physical activity after college may still benefit from specialized care and education. We're here to help women navigate physical activities in their early 20s and into their midlife years so that you can stay healthy, active, and strong. Our engaging programs include running clinics, menopausal classes, cooking classes, and much more.

Getting You Back in the Game

All athletes suffer from injuries from time to time. When you find yourself battling a nagging pain or chronic injury, let us help you heal. Our sports medicine team understands the nuances of female health, which will help you recover safely and prevent future injuries. We’ve designed many of our clinics to help you improve your techniques to avoid common injuries among female athletes.

We treat all types of sports injuries, including:

  • Strains and sprains
  • Bone stress injuries (stress fractures)
  • Ligament tears (including ACL injuries)
  • Concussions
  • Fractures and dislocations
  • Overuse injuries

Working Together to Keep You Healthy and Strong

Like any team, were stronger and accomplish more when we work together. That's why we take a team approach to caring for women athletes. Our women’s sports program works closely with orthopedic physicians, nutritionists, sports psychologists, and many others to deliver collaborative, comprehensive care centered around you.

Whether you’re looking to improve your skills, recover from injury, or stay healthy, we’re here for you.
