Those who come to Emory for radiation oncology receive care from board-certified radiation oncologists using the most advanced technologies to treat cancer.
Radiation oncology is a part of the Winship Cancer Institute, Georgia’s first and only comprehensive cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
Our doctors tailor your radiation treatment to your specific needs in a caring and supportive environment. They’re also researchers, bringing you access to clinical trials offering the most promising breakthroughs in cancer treatment.
What happens with radiation therapy
Radiation therapy shrinks tumors and kills cancer cells using high-energy waves. About two-thirds of those diagnosed with cancer will receive radiation therapy. Radiation may be the only treatment used, or it may be combined with other treatments, such as chemotherapy or surgery.
Emory Clinic Radiation Oncology doctors combine their expansive research knowledge and experience with the latest technology to determine an individualized treatment plan that will be most effective for each patient.
Emory’s advance technologies and therapies include:
- CT Simulation
- Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
- Rapid Arc
- Spinal Radiosurgery
- Total Body Irradiation (TBI)
- Total Skin Electron Beam (TSEB) Therapy
- Total Lymphoid Irradiation (TLI)
- True Beam
- Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS)
- Vision RT
