Spiritual Health

The Spiritual Health department is guided by the following mission statement: We will strive to respond to the whole person with respect and compassion utilizing the best in ethically-centered practice, education and research.

Chaplains affirm the spirituality of each person, including those who profess no particular religious faith. Chaplains recognize that the inner spirit affects one’s perspective on life and one’s capacity to respond to life’s changes and crisis. The Spiritual Health Department is a component site for the Emory Spiritual Health Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) Program which is accredited by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education.  CPE intern and resident chaplains are integral parts of the clinical team at the Emory Hillandale Hospital.

At times of change or crisis, most people engage in a search for meaning that can bring them hope and healing. Chaplains are available to support patients and families during such times.

Chaplains:

  • Are available 24 hours a day, 7 days-a-week
  • Provide an empathetic and compassionate presence
  • Are trained in crisis intervention and grief support
  • Respect and support religious and cultural difference that impact care
  • Provide spiritual support for patients and their families
  • May refer to community clergy who are available to address specific religious/sacramental needs.
