Bone Marrow & Stem Cell
Transplant Center

Georgia’s Most Experienced Bone Marrow & Stem Cell Transplant Center

Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University offers the most innovative cancer care. You want the best team when you need a bone marrow or stem cell transplant. Emory Healthcare has Georgia’s most experienced team. We’ve performed over 5,000 bone marrow and stem cell transplants.

Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University is the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Georgia, one of only 69 in the country. We offer the most comprehensive care for leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and other blood disorders not available anywhere else in the state. Your team is with you for every step, from diagnosis to treatment to survivorship.

Bone marrow and stem cell transplants destroy diseased bone marrow, sending healthy stem cells into your bloodstream. After a successful transplant, the new bone marrow fills the inside of your large bones and begins producing healthy, normal blood cells.

Transplants can build cells following chemotherapy or radiation for cancer or destroy existing cancer cells. Each patient is unique, so we offer several types of bone marrow transplants. We’ll discuss your options and partner with you on the best treatment plan.

Personalized Care for You

We know that every patient’s journey is different. You can trust us to provide the most innovative care from a team focused on your complete recovery.

A Bone Marrow & Stem Cell Transplant Team You Can Count On

Winship Cancer Institute physicians meet weekly to discuss the most effective treatment options for their patients. It’s like getting multiple second opinions without having to see other doctors.

Our specialized care team works with you throughout your treatment. This team of experts includes oncologists, hematologists, genetic counselors, pharmacists, radiologists, pathologists, dieticians, nurses, social workers, and financial counselors focused on your survivorship.

Support During and After Treatment

Our Survivorship Program supports you and your loved ones during bone marrow and stem transplant treatment. We schedule follow-up tests and office visits before you leave the hospital. And after treatment, every bone marrow and stem cell transplant patient receives an individualized plan that includes follow-up care on your road to recovery.

Center of Excellence

A Center of Excellence must meet rigorous standards. The Emory Bone Marrow & Stem Cell Transplant Center meets and surpasses those standards. We are accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. The Joint Commission, which sets the standards for patient safety and quality health care, has also accredited our center. The Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University is part of a Magnet-designated hospital. Only 8% of hospitals in the U.S. have received Magnet status, which recognizes quality nursing care.
