Emory Bariatric Center at Midtown
Begin Your Journey
Our primary goal is to improve your overall health and well being through a collaborative and compassionate weight management approach.
Step 1: Register & Complete a Seminar
We offer two types of free online seminars.
Get the facts you need about bariatric surgery at Emory Healthcare at Midtown by participating in our online seminar. Please note that before becoming a bariatric surgery patient at Emory Healthcare, we require that the online bariatric surgery seminar be viewed. After viewing the seminar, fill out the registration form (using the link below) and proceed to the post-seminar quiz.
With our online medical weight loss seminar, you get all the information you need about non-surgical weight management at Emory Healthcare at Midtown. Watch the seminar as often as you like, as well as share the information with your friends or family.
Step 2: Review Payment Options
Whether paying for your surgery through insurance or out of pocket, there is a $600 program fee for all patients, half of which will be collected at the time of enrollment into the program.
Bariatric surgery is often a covered procedure under many medical insurance plans. Some insurers will only cover bariatric surgery when it is performed at a designated or accredited center. Emory Bariatric Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and is designated a Center of Excellence by most major insurance plans. Before deciding on any medical procedure you should ask your insurer whether bariatric surgery is a covered benefit, and what criteria are required for approval.
While the Emory Bariatric Center's weight management programs and surgical interventions are state of the art, we can't guarantee that our services are covered benefits for every insurance plan. The remainder will be collected at your group nutrition class. If for any reason you are not able to progress to surgery, your program fee can be fully or partially refunded, based on the services you have received. Because each patient has different needs, we offer the following payment options:
- Credit Cards (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express)
- Financing - In order to provide patients with access to the superior care, we offer financing options through an independent provider
For more information about financing options, please call 404-778-7777.
Step 3: Schedule Your Consultation
After completing your online seminar, please register.
Please fill out our New Patient Questionnaire and bring it with you to your appointment.
Please arrive at least 20 minutes before your appointment. Please arrive fasting (nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before). In a group meeting led by a member of our team, you will receive important information about how our program works as well as the process of obtaining pre-authorization for surgery. You will then meet individually with our one of our providers for a comprehensive evaluation. You will also have lab work and an EKG completed.
Step 4: Prepare for Surgery
Weight loss surgery is like other major surgeries. The best preparation is to understand the risks and potential benefits and to closely follow your doctor’s instructions.
- Understand the surgical process and what to expect afterwards
- Talk to people who have had weight loss surgery or attend a support group to gain valuable insight
Additional Bariatric Patient Resources
We strongly encourage all bariatric surgery patients to attend monthly support group meetings (at least one of which should be before surgery). This monthly group is available for patients considering bariatric surgery and for those who have already had bariatric surgery at Emory or elsewhere. Led by dietitians, health-fitness specialists, and psychologists, group meetings are a place for patients to address surgery's impact on their lives, explore their changing motivators, while learning about ways of incorporating lifestyle changes for long term success. Lifetime membership in the support group is included in the program fee for Emory patients. Individuals who received bariatric surgery elsewhere will be charged a nominal fee.Bariatric Surgery Support Group meets on the second Monday of each month in the Emory Bariatric Center on the 7th floor of the Medical Office Tower (MOT) at Emory University Hospital Midtown - 550 West Peachtree Street, NE Atlanta, GA 30308 from 5:45 to 7 p.m.
