Shoulder Problems

  • Little Leaguer's Shoulder – This injury to the upper arm bone at the shoulder affects children who are still growing and developing. Stress, such as that from overuse, irritates the growth plate and causes pain while throwing. Rest is one of the most important treatments.
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Scapular Dyskinesis - Abnormal mobility or function of the shoulder blade may lead to shoulder pain and damage to the rotator cuff, cartilage or nerves. Rest or physical therapy may be recommended.
  • Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) - Caused by compression of nerves or large blood vessels, TOS presents as pain in the arm, shoulder and neck. Treatment begins with exercise and physical therapy.

  • Labral Tears
  • Biceps tendons injuries

Elbow Injuries

  • Little Leaguer's Elbow – This condition is caused by overuse of the arm in young athletes. The growth plates on the ends of the bones forming the elbow joint become inflamed, resulting in pain at the inner side of the elbow. Rest is the one of the most important treatments.
  • Tommy John Injury/UCL injury – Repeated throwing can cause the ulnar collateral ligament on the inside of the elbow to stretch or tear, causing tingling, numbness or pain. Rest, physical therapy, PRP injections and/or surgery may be suggested.
  • Valgus Extension Overload Syndrome/elbow impingement - This compression injury is typically caused by excessively or repetitively straightening the elbow. Activity modification, physical therapy, treatment with PRP Therapy (Platelet-Rich Plasma), or surgery are possible treatments.
