Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Summer vacation, fall break, winter break, spring break—what do they all have in common besides no schoolwork? They're great times to get your wisdom teeth out! Taking care of your teeth now, while you're young, can prevent all kinds of dental problems later.

How Are Wisdom Teeth Removed?

Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars that most people get in their late teens or early twenties. These teeth can be a valuable asset to the mouth when healthy and properly aligned, but more often than not, they are misaligned and require removal.

The ease at which an oral surgeon can extract your wisdom teeth depends on their position and stage of development. A provider will be able to give you an idea of what to expect during your pre-extraction exam. A wisdom tooth that is fully visible through the gum can be extracted as easily as any other tooth. However, a wisdom tooth that is underneath the gum and embedded in the jawbone may require a more invasive procedure.
