Overview

The thyroid gland affects almost all of the metabolic processes in the body through the hormones it produces. Problems with the thyroid gland may range from small, harmless conditions to more severe diseases like cancer. Common thyroid problems usually involve abnormal production of thyroid hormones. Too little hormone production is called hypothyroidism, while too much production is called hyperthyroidism. Both conditions can be managed if correctly diagnosed and treated.
