About

Upon graduating from the University of Maryland School of Medicine Magna Cum Laude in 1990, Dr. Cawley entered neurosurgical residency training at Emory University. He then completed fellowships in Cerebrovascular Surgery at the University of Florida and in Interventional Neuroradiology at Emory University, where he joined the Neurosurgical Faculty in 1998. Dr. Cawley has been practicing cerebrovascular and endovascular procedures for almost 20 years. During that time he was instrumental in gaining Comprehensive Stroke Center designation for Emory University Hospital, which was the first in metro Atlanta and the first in the state to be re-certified. He also has participated in one of the nation’s elite training fellowships in cerebrovascular & endovascular neurosurgery. This fellowship was among the first to receive CAST certification.
Dr. Cawley currently is a professor of Neurosurgery and Radiology, and is the Section Chief and Director of Endovascular Neurosurgery & Interventional Radiology for Emory Healthcare. He has been a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society since 1989, is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, and served on the Executive Committee of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. He also maintains leadership and membership positions in several medical societies, including the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Joint Section on Cerebrovascular Diseases and the American Society of Neurointerventional Surgery.
Dr. Cawley's clinical and research interests lie in the treatment of neurovascular disorders via both surgical and endovascular means. He is an active member of The Emory MBNA Stroke Center, which combines the expertise of cerebrovascular neurosurgeons, interventional neuroradiologists, stroke neurologists and neurointensivists, and has developed one of the largest clinical experiences in the nation.

Dr showed an anomoly (had been there since birth. He was dismissive of my desire to rule out ehler dolas syndrome but ehler donlas would be present at birth. He DID identify that a reumitologist or geneoligist would need to diagnose ED. He said that if I was hypermobile then I could not have ED. That was a falsehood as ther is a high comorbidity rate for EDS and hyper mobility. I realize that there is a tendency to over specialize(at 74 I think I may have seen alittle of all the belief systems followed by medical field. He did not say as other than an aside ..but I think he was reacting to th belief that EDS diagnosis is not true for overweight people ..which is also untrue. While I shudder to be be given misinformation I will say that the specific to the test information (basilar artery)) The doctors use of technology to dislay a side bty side study over 15 years seemed very accurate and informative. Thank you Dr. Cawley for helping me understand my Basilar artery
