Dr. Faisal Merchant was born in London, England but grew up in Atlanta, GA. He attended college at Emory, where he majored in Religion and graduated with Highest Honors. He then attended medical school at Duke University in Durham, NC, followed by Internal Medicine residency and Cardiology fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He then returned to Atlanta and completed additional fellowship training in cardiac electrophysiology at Emory. His clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of cardiac electrophysiology procedures including implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators, ablation of complex arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, lead extraction and left atrial appendage occlusion.
Dr. Merchant also has a strong research interest in sudden cardiac death risk stratification and utilization of implantable defibrillators. He has recieved multiple grants to support his research efforts and has published extensively on these topics. Outside work, Dr. Merchant is an avid Duke basketball fan, an eternally frustrated golfer and enjoys reading political biographies.
