About

Your hands are your most essential tools—for your work, your passions, and your independence. When pain, numbness, or injury keeps you from using them, your life is put on hold. Dr. William Knaus, M.D., M.B.A., is dedicated to helping patients at Emory Johns Creek move beyond the frustration of hand and upper-extremity conditions and back into the lives they love.

Recognized as a Top Doctor by Atlanta Magazine and Castle Connolly, Dr. Knaus serves as your expert guide for conditions of the hand, wrist, and nerves. He provides you with a clear, three-step path to recovery: a specialized evaluation, a tailored treatment map—including non-surgical options—and a focused plan to optimize function.

Dr. Knaus brings a world-class pedigree to the Atlanta community. He is board-certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery and holds a subspecialty certification in hand surgery. Before joining the Emory University faculty in 2018, he completed his medical training at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.

Whether you are looking to return to a demanding career or simply want to pick up a guitar without pain, Dr. Knaus combines elite surgical precision with a commitment to his patients' quality of life. Outside the clinic, he is an avid musician and outdoorsman who enjoys exploring Georgia's trails with his Belgian Shepherd.

Dr. Knaus wasn't pleasant at all. He rushed through the visit and brushed off my concerns. He didn't wear gloves and I didn't appreciate that. I won't be back.

In my experience, doctors and assistants in speciality practices don't seem to really remember much about you. In this practice though, both of them remembered everything I'd told them before from where we spent our winter, to where we lived in Georgia, to how I broke my fingers. I was honestly amazed. They are top notch and they also care and pay attention.

Dr. Knaus wrapped my hand himself and took that opportunity to explain everything to me - options, recommendations, risks, future stiffness, importance of certified hand physical therapist, timing, surgical process. I was very impressed with his thoroughness and also his gentleness when wrapping it.

He didn't ask me about my pain or do any mobility assessments; Kaus just measured the cyst and addressed none of the pain I was trying to bring up. I appreciate his honesty with how poor the treatment options are for the cyst I suppose, though I feel like I'm at an impasse about what to do for my pain, weakness, and lack of mobility.
