Thien-Kim Phan Le, MD
Family Medicine - Primary Care, Family Medicine
Emory Clinic at Old Fourth Ward
740 Ralph McGill Boulevard Northeast, Atlanta, GA 30312About
Dr. Le, a primary care physician, is accepting new patients of all ages at the Emory Primary Care Clinic - Old Fourth Ward in Atlanta. While she offers a full-spectrum of medical services, Dr. Le has a special interest in women's health. She enjoys advising women about family planning/contraception, prenatal care and the importance of maintaining wellness.
Dr. Le graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine (Gainesville, FL) and completed her residency at the Emory University School of Medicine. She specifically chose to become a family practice doctor so she could build strong, long-term patient relationships.
Dr. Le believes these relationships, built on trust over time, lead to better healthcare outcomes. With intimate knowledge of a patient's health history and personal life, she is able to provide continuity of care, recognize warning signs of health problems more quickly and coach patients as they weave in and out of the different stages of life.
Primary Care Means Finding Common Ground
Dr. Le finds it extremely rewarding when patients take ownership of their health. She understands that eating right, getting regular exercise, taking medications, eliminating bad habits (such as smoking)and making other healthy lifestyle choices is difficult for many people. So as she gets to know her patients, she encourages them to share their struggles and talk about barriers to success, such as family obligations, work stressors and financial pressures. Dr. Le uses this input to help her patients take baby steps in practicing wellness. She looks for common ground — a balance between ideal healthcare solutions and alternatives in which patients will actually comply — so patients are more likely to change behaviors and achieve meaningful goals.
A Commitment To Global Health
Dr. Le has had an interest in Latin American populations since she was an undergraduate at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. As a Spanish major, she had the opportunity to travel to Mexico and teach English to children. It was a difficult but amazing experience that ignited her love for the people and cultures of Latin America.
While in medical school, Dr. Le began volunteering for a global health initiative that provides medical outreach to people living in the remote villages of Ecuador. She spends one week every year in the developing country helping those who do not have easy access to healthcare. She treats many of the same problems she sees in the Atlanta area (like high blood pressure and diabetes) as well as a variety of issues stemming from malnutrition and a lack of preventative healthcare resources.
Dr. Le also visits south Georgia regularly to provide primary care services to migrant farm workers from Mexico, Guatemala, Haiti and other foreign countries. She firmly believes every human, despite socioeconomic status, deserves access to quality medical care.
To keep herself healthy, Dr. Le carves out time in her busy schedule to play soccer and go salsa dancing. She loves to travel, cook and spend time with her family.
