For Dr. Kavita Gone (pronounced “go-nay”), the path to becoming a primary care physician began early. As a child she was fascinated by the workings of the human body and enthusiastic about learning more. She followed through by pursuing her education — first at a highly respected medical college in India, then in England for further training, and finally to the U.S. for her internship and residency in family medicine.
Dr. Gone began working at Emory Healthcare in 2013. She is dedicated to being there for each patient as a friend and an advisor, to help them improve and maintain both their physical and mental health.
Years of Training
During her training, Dr. Gone focused on general and family practice. She enjoyed working closely with patients in areas such as delivering babies, following up with patients after their discharge from the hospital, and visiting patients in nursing homes. She also worked in surgery and intensive care, performed outpatient procedures, and taught medical students and interns.
Dr. Gone added further training during a number of international positions. In the United Kingdom, she observed physicians during the practice of respiratory medicine and endocrinology. As a Duty Medical Officer in Sai Krishna Neuro Hospital in Hyderabad, India, she provided support services for patients and hospital staff. And in Gulbarga, India, she trained under an experienced physician at the District Government Hospital.
Contributing to Research
Dr. Gone has been board certified in family medicine since 2012. She stays informed on current practices in primary care, and also contributes to the knowledge base through research and presentations.
She has participated in research on lung conditions such as pulmonary embolism and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). She has presented seminars in areas such as lactation and uterine fibroids. She’s also worked in projects involving high blood pressure and hypothyroidism.
Serving Others
Dr. Gone has been generous with her time since her days in training. In 2001 she conducted a Pulse Polio Immunization program at rural health centers in Gulbarga, India. She was involved in STD and AIDS awareness camps with a high-risk population in Hyderabad, India in 2003.
In 2011, she counseled people at a group home in Huntsville, Alabama about obesity. She also helped distribute essential supplies to people affected by a 2011 tornado in the Huntsville area. Currently, Dr. Gone conducts health fairs at her temple.
Practicing excellent patient care is Dr. Gone’s professional goal, and she continues to meet it each day at Emory at Duluth.
She balances her busy work life by keeping fit with yoga and spending quality time with her husband and growing family. Dr. Gone loves to read a good book, and she also tries to find time for travel.
