Allen D. Beck, MD, was appointed director of Emory Eye Center on June 3, 2019 and F. Phinizy Calhoun, Sr. Chair in Ophthalmology on June 1, 2020. He is the former director, Section of Glaucoma for Emory Eye Center. His clinical focus is on diagnosis and management of pediatric and adult glaucoma, including surgical treatment of cataract. His research interests include diagnosis and management of pediatric glaucoma, clinical studies of adult glaucoma therapies, pediatric cataract, and glaucoma compliance.
National Recognition
In 2020, Dr. Beck was appointed the F. Phinizy Calhoun, Sr. Chair in Ophthalmology by Emory University School of Medicine.
Dr. Beck is a member of the Executive Committee for the Childhood Glaucoma Research Network and has served on the Steering Committee for Advanced Glaucoma Intervention Study (AGIS), the American Glaucoma Society Patient Care Committee and Practice Guidelines Subcommittee and on the editorial board of JAAPOS (Journal of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus).

I have been seeing Dr. Beck for more than 25 years. He is always engaging,thorough in my exam and answers my questions and my parents questions. His care is excellent, however, the Emory Eye center really does not need to triple book appointments. It was clear from the board in both waiting areas that at least 2 other individuals had appointments at the same time.

Dr Beck took sufficient time to answer all my questions and explain the pros and cons of surgery. I love that he's a straight shooter and doesn't sugarcoat things. Living with advanced retinal disease is difficult and I know I will get to a point when surgery is not an option for me. We had a wonderful yet Frank discussion about my next steps. I appreciate him taking the time that was needed to discuss this in full.
