Dr. Knauer received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Georgetown University and his medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine. He then completed his internship in general surgery at New York University and his residency in general surgery at the University of Connecticut. Afterwards he completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery with Dr. John Sweeney in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. Dr. Knauer then began working at Wellstar Cobb Hospital just outside of Atlanta where he held numerous leadership positions including Medical Staff President, Chairman of the Department of Surgery, and Chairman of the Credentials Committee. He has been a preceptor for Emory nurse practitioner and physician assistant students as well as for local medical students. He has now joined The Emory Clinic where his primary role will be as a surgeon on the GI and General service at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Dr. Knauer is board certified in General Surgery and certified on the Davinci robotics system.
