This has been a very positive experience for me.
I definitely trust the judgement and expertise of the doctor. He did seem a little rushed and deferred to the resident, but it did not bother me enough to not return or suggest others not see him. The resident was amazing and I can see why he trusted her to answer patient questions.
I asked the PA a fair amount of questions and he answered all of them! Any he didn't know the exact answer to he gave me a general estimate and then communicated the question to the doctor before he came into the room so he could address them with a more exact answer!
Physician Residents and Nurses are fine to work with. Getting to that point is miserable. Many online reviews and social media posts in support groups suggest finding an out of state physician for any type of TMJ surgical needs.
Dr. Bouloux and Dr. Kash (I believe) treated me as if I were their own family member. Both using a kind and compassionate tone of voice. Any and all questions I had were answered.
Dr Bouloux is always great. I was also impressed with Dr. Kier who was in my surgery in the time she spent to explain why the surgery plan changed on day of surgery.
The clinical staff and Dr. Balou explained all aspects of my care plan and initiated a discussion with me to include my input in next steps.
Great experience for a very worrisome problem. The doctor and nurse showed compassion and knowledge. Very much appreciated.
Dr. Bouloux and his staff have provided excellent care for every appointment that I've had.
The fellow was good and Dr. Bo. Was informative and took my concerns seriously.
I feel the treatment options were kind of drawn out I need immediate treatment
Doctor was extremely thorough
Doc was very thorough in explaining what needed to be done.
The doctor was Excellent! He explained the procedure and what it involves. I was very pleased with the interaction.
The dentist surgeon and intern were fabulous. They listened and understood my complex medical case. They didn't rush and let me explain. They talked calmly through a painful procedure where I don't numb well and laughing gas was making it hard to breathe. If the nurse wasn't there, it would've been a better experience.
Dr. Bouloux was very nice and courteous; however, the entire consultation was brief and to the point. It took four months to get an appointment, and 15 minutes for a consultation. Essentially, I have bilateral TMJ dysfunction. I already went through all the conservative non-surgical measures (mouth guard, PT, muscle relaxants, NSAIDs), and unless my symptoms worsen (pain, ROM, quality of life), call again....and probably wait another four months?! The conclusion or outcome of the visit I understood and was in total agreement with, I do not want surgery. Unfortunately, it left me hanging with minimal options, and if my TMJ dysfunction Is sustainable, will it lock up again, will it dislocate, will I ever be able to chew foods normally?
I must have said or done something to alienate Dr. B. He interrupted me continually, and was clearly in a hurry to be done with me. I had selected him because he serves on a national panel setting guidelines for TMJD care. I wanted his expertise and thought I was paying for it. He referred to me as "darling" multiple times as he interrupted me (I am 64, an MIT alum, and was a medical writer, but he clearly thought I wasn't worth engaging with in any meaningful way). When I described symptoms, he interrupted me with, "yes, that happens," (multiple times), making no effort to take an extra minute to explain what he knows about the natural history or treatment of TMJD. I had a report from an MRI describing multiple findings; he barely glanced at it, without explaining why its findings were irrelevant to him. He made very clear I was wasting his time. I had been referred to a surgeon some years ago by a dentist in Buckhead, now retired, but wasn't willing to get surgery then. When I read about Dr.B's expertise, I was excited to meet with someone who specialized in TMJD using evidence-based medicine. I told him I had been in pain for many years and the goal at the moment was to fix my appearance without making the pain worse. I thought that might require surgery in addition to braces, because my jaw is canted due to TMJ erosion. He basically said I could do whatever I wanted.
Dr. Bouloux had not read the prep email I sent via the portal 3 days prior to my appt. When I asked him about it he literally shrugged his shoulders. He rushed through the entire appointment. It only lasted a couple of minutes longer because I had clarifying questions.
Very good in listening to me and explaining further treatments if necessary.
I specifically asked about other treatment such as night guard etc and it was if I never said it. I could see my appointment as a new patient was only scheduled for 15 min which was too short to really have any meaningful discussion about options. The whole thing about not seeing past X-rays, mri etc to compare to now was disappointing for sure. I trust Dr Bouloux, but I said things were getting worse and I would have liked an objective assessment from comparing the past.
An MRI has been ordered. What doc says will affect my overall comments
I was pleased with my Doctors.
My surgeon seemed to not listen or pass along the message that I did not need to get more scans and xrays for insurance
Dr Bouloux is very knowledgeable!!! Need more like him.
Dr Bouleux was both thorough and effective.
I have been struggling with this for over 20 years. This was the first time I ever felt that someone really listened, understood what the problem was, and felt hope about treatment. Everyone consistently validated my concerns.
Dr. Ray and Dr. Bouloux were very knowledgeable about my health issues and are working on my plan of care.
Dr. Bouloux was very clear in his discussion with me about treatment options.
Everyone seemed very efficient and friendly
Dr. Boloux always allows me to ask any questions I might have. He talks through the answers and treatment with me. He does use a lot of stats which might be helpful to some patients but not really myself. He is very persistent about finding a way to ease symptoms or pain. I appreciate his time and knowledge.
I had good visit at Emory hospital.
He was not able to provide a procedure forward but was to check with another doctor not in staff at Emory University Hospital
Overall Emory would be my recommendation to family and friends for any type of medical care. Always caring and on point. Very efficient too.
The doctor is outstanding
Everyone I came in contact with did an outstanding job from the front desk, assistants, nurse and surgeons. My only regret is that I did not write names down. Thanks to all
Everyone with long history of osteoporosis drugs and an infection should go straight to this office and Dr. Bouloux. I wasted so much time with people who acted like they knew what they were doing in the dental world, only to discover later, that Emory had an Oral Surgery Department with knowledge of medically induced osteomyelitis/osteonecrosis. Oddly, Emory Endocrinology did not tell me this. Emory Endocrinology should be referring people with long osteoporosis drug use immediately to Emory Oral Surgery. THIS IS THE PLACE TO GET PROPER CARE.
Dr. Bouloux is always pleasant and knowledgeable. I am so glad that he will be the person to perform my surgery in a few weeks! Dr. Conner was very nice and friendly, as well!
Goals were outside normal and resulted in some challenges in after visit
I was disappointed I was not going to receive gas prior to having the teeth pulled but Dr Blouxe (excuse the mis spelling of his name) with his skilled bedside manor elevated my fears with his confidence. He was truly on point. I am grateful.
Attending physician was excellent and efficient. Resident spent all the necessary time to hear the story of my previous dental care, diagnosis, and health history. I felt very well cared for by this office.
Very pleased with my visit
During my doctor visit, the doctor was fantastic, explained more than 1 treatment paths, and asked my thoughts. I really appreciated all of this, as it's rare.
And the doctor was kind. Explain everything in a way that you could understand.
Dr. Bouloux was great. He was very kind as he examined me and took the time to listen to my concerns and questions. He went over treatment options in detail. I appreciated his attention to detail and concern.
I wish I would've have more specific Instruction for after care. Find myself looking a lot of stuff up.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about the surgeon and his staff.
Kind, caring, well explained
I felt Dr Bouloux was very knowledgeable and totally understanding of my issues and why. He explained in a conservative way how we can start some treatments
We were pleased to meet Dr Bouloux and resident. Very nice and answered our questions.
So grateful for Dr Ballou. I've been to doctors all around the world and no one has been able to help me. Even though it took a long time to get in there to see him I am grateful that I was able to see him and look forward to continuing to work with him
Would have been helpful to hear more about pros and cons of all tx provided. Botox prescribed but location unknown and side effects not discussed.
We had a very very good visit with this doctor. He has a great bedside manner.
Do not remember risk being discussed. Did not get to see the equipment to be placed in left jaw joint.
I went to a dr in my hometown but even though it's a big expense to have to fly to GA for every visit I feel like it's a much better fit for me.
Dr Bouloux and Dr Cantrell were excellent. All of their staff were wonderful too.
These answers are for Dr Balou. While he was very cordial and knowledgeable, he did not explain the X-ray and did not offer options for treatment in the future other than saying he has "plenty of options" if things get worse. I had to wait and read the chart note to find the extent of my condition.
I was seen by two doctors, Dr. Housley and Dr. Bouleaux. Both were professional and pleasant.
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!!! We are so pleased and finally got answers we needed.
A most positive experience.
Dr. Bouloux always has a great bedside manner and readily answers questions and provides clear explanations. He is an exceptional doctor and I would recommend him to anyone and everyone.
I felt that everyone was very invested in my well being and MORE THAN THAT cared.
Dr Bouloux is an outstanding physician whom I would highly recommend
Dr Boulouxr reCommended taping/patching my left eye shut to get the eye lid trained to close. I start it last night and was able to sleep much better. I found the nurse frusting. I explained that I am hearing paired and that he needed to talk facing me and half the time he was turned away. I think he found my lack of hearing to be an inconvenience.
I saw a resident first. He gets an A for kindness, information and removing my stitches. He also showed me how to use the therabite and had me try it in my mouth. When my doctor came in he told me not to use it until I come back for my next visit. Cart before the horse here. I think a thereabite should be given in the clinic by the doctor at the appropriate time.
It is a shameful secret in health care over all about hospital- born infections. This has happened to me of family or friends more than 10 times over 20 years. Own it! Treat it! And move on. Denial, obfuscation, and ignorance must be something med school spends a whole semester on. Kudos to Dr Boloux for responding appropriately after only 2 min of cajoling.
The sun rises and sets with Dr B.
Wonderful explanation of all my options and the treatment options
I felt very at ease with the Doctor who performed my oral surgery. He was kind and caring as well.
This was a very tough visit for all concerned. Previous doctor care left much to be desired so a difficult visit for Emory doctor. We are satisfied with the quality if care received.
The entire staff was friendly, caring and a terrific medical group that made my first experience ever to Oral Surgery truly a positive one.
Dr. Bouloux listened to my issues and gave me the options! He did not pressure me to make a decision right then but informed me of all the risks for each option!
Being my first visit it hard to make judgement on the short visit.
Very attentive and felt that I was in great hands.
Honestly I just felt like another number. As a new patient, I seen the doctor all of 5 mins. The student doctor or resident had more compassion than the doctor I was scheduled with.
