Dr. Karsan joined the team in 2005 and serves as Adjunct Professor in the Division of Digestive Diseases at the Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Karsan earned his medical degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at Boston University Medical Center. He then completed clinical fellowships in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. While at UCLA, he received additional training in interventional endoscopy, liver transplantation and clinical research design. He has authored three gastroenterology and hepatology textbooks, directs an annual gastroenterology and hepatology review course and also serves on editorial boards of gastroenterology and hepatology journals. Dr. Karsan earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in Transplant Hepatology in 2008. He is active in a number of medical societies and has been elected Fellow of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Physicians.
