About

Jaffar Khan is a board certified Neurologist with added board certifications in Vascular Neurology, Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology. He completed his Neurology residency in 1997 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and during his last year in the program he served as the Chief Resident. He then completed a one-year fellowship in Clinical Neurophysiology at Emory University, and joined the Emory University SOM faculty in 1998. He is currently Associate Professor of Neurology, and Vice-Chair for Education.
Dr. Khan is a hands-on teacher who for the past two decades has supervised medical students, residents and other trainees during their rotations on the inpatient, consult, and outpatient services at Emory Healthcare and Grady Memorial Hospital. He quickly established leadership roles in post-graduate medical education and ultimately became Director of the neurology residency and CNP fellowship training programs. Soon after, his role expanded to the Vice Chair of Neurologic Education in our Department of Neurology and since his appointment to this vital position Dr. Khan assumed responsibility for the direction of medical student education in the neurosciences.  Currently, he serves as an Assistant Dean for Medical Education in the School of Medicine.
He has served as the Director of the Neurology Clinical Clerkship, Director of the M2 Neuroscience I Module, Co-Director of the M1 Neural Function Course, and the Co-Director of the M2 Neuroscience II Module. At the college level, he co-directs the Clinical Neurology Survey and the MD-SEE Courses for Emory’s undergraduates. In 2014, he had honor of directing a neuroscience course for Emory College’s Summer Abroad Program in Paris, France. His success as a clinician educator is exemplified by his receipt of, not one, but over 15 institutional and national teaching awards for his efforts at the medical student and residency levels. Dr. Khan is an individual who has dedicated himself to neurology education and to contributing to the education of future generations of neurologists and other health professionals. As a education director he is an outstanding mentor, advocate, and teacher. His dedication, creativity, innovation and energy represent the epitome of excellence of medical education within Neurology.

Dr. Khan exceeded all expectations. He was kind, compassionate, well prepared, explained my husbands condition, made sure we were in the right place for help, listened to our story, answered all of our questions and got our treatment plan in action very quickly.

Every Emory MD should shadow Dr Khan. He has the best interactions with patients. He even summoned me personally from the waiting room. He summarized his understanding of my health issue and had read my complete history prior to my arrival. He listened, asked questions, discussed, and made recommendations. Perfect office visit

My visit with Dr. Khan was an excellent experience. He was well prepared for my appointment - I could tell that he had read my chart/medical history beforehand. He listened to all my concerns, and explained my diagnosis and recommended treatment in layman's terms. He also showed me a brief video which highlighted my condition/treatment and answered my questions in a pleasant, non-rushed, plain-speak manner. Having seen many physicians over the past several years for my condition, I can honestly say that Dr. Khan has been the best by far.

The experience with this visit is outstanding. I have never been to a place where the Doctor came to get you himself. I thought it was a one off on my first visit. But that is standard practice. How amazing is that ?!!!He makes you feel like YOU are important and validates why he is very difficult to get an initial appointment. Best Doctor in Atlanta.

Great experience with Dr Kahn

Aside from the extreme long wait for an appointment. Dr. Khan was one of the best doctors I have had the pleasure of receiving care. He was friendly and funny, 100% focused on me during my time with him and he made me feel immediately at ease from the moment he escorted me from the waiting room until the end of the appointment. The recommended RX's were immediately called into my pharmacy and I was able to pick them up on my way home. I felt seen and heard and most importantly I could tell that Dr.Khan loves what he does and his style of care is with a determined empathy making me feel that he really wants to connect with his patients and his touch of humor was so very welcome after waiting such a long time to finally have a diagnosis and a resolution to help me deal with the sometimes debilitating symptoms I have been suffering through for years. He also provided me with a way to expedite follow up care if needed so my wait time will be less time intensive. That meant EVERYTHING to me.

Dr. Khan was an excellent listener and allowed me to ask and reply to questions.

5 out of 5 Reviewed on 2024-11-30

Dr Khan had clearly read my file and began our time by telling me with great thoroughness and detail what he already knew about my medical history and the reason. Having had multiple experiences where it is clear that doctors have not had the time, or taken the time, to read either my medical history or the information that I have submitted prior to my appointment about the reason for my visit, this was actually surprising and much appreciated.
