Dr. Jeanie Park completed her undergraduate studies at Rice University in 1997, and received her MD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2001. She then completed her internal medicine residency at Washington University in St. Louis, MO during which she served as a Clinical Scientist Training and Research (C-STAR) fellow.
She completed her clinical Nephrology fellowship at the University of Southern California and postdoctoral research training at both USC and UCLA with the support of the Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA award. She also received an MS of Biomedical and Clinical Investigations/translational research track from the Keck School of Medicine at USC in 2008.
She joined the Renal faculty at Emory University in November 2008. She is board-certified in Nephrology and is an American Society of Hypertension (ASH) Clinical Specialist in Hypertension.
Dr. Park’s human physiology research is focused on the regulation of the sympathetic nervous system in patients at high cardiovascular risk, particularly those with chronic kidney disease, hypertension, smokers, and stress disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Current studies in the lab include: 1) the exercise pressor reflex, functional sympatholysis, alpha-1 adrenergic sensitivity, exercise training, and other novel therapies in patients with chronic kidney disease; 2) sympathetic and hemodynamic reactivity during mental stress, arterial baroreflex function, heart rate variability, inflammatory markers, angiotensin receptor blockade and device guided slow breathing in patients with PTSD.
The lab is funded by NIH, VA Merit, and foundation awards. Clinical Dr. Park cares for patients weekly at both the Emory Clinic and at the Atlanta VA Medical Center. Her clinical interests include management of chronic kidney disease (CKD), cardiovascular risk in CKD, resistant and difficult to control hypertension. She also attends the Renal Consultation service at the Atlanta VAMC.
